Chapter 3: First Contact
Back on Earth the final preparations for the launch were beginning to unfold. At the lunching pads in China the shuttles began to be fueled and prepared, the remaining food was put aboard and the primary systems were on-line. The pure sight of the large shuttles was breathtaking. There height could be compared with the Petronas
Towers Kuala Lumpur and their wideness to about 150 meters. But inside stood there true greatness: Large rooms filed with stasis pods where the remaining human population sleeping and waiting for there arrival in a new world a better one.
In total 10 shuttles were built there were at there limits of capacity, but nevertheless they had enough space for all. Besides the population in stasis there were other things on them such as military troops and large transporters. On each ship resided two Jupiter Transporter and also a full squadron of LC aircraft consisting of Meteor m3 fighter/bombers, Super Fighters m3, Thunderer m2 bombers and Mercury ammo/unit transporters. In the hull of the ships there were stored the true bulk of the LC, ED and UCS army. All kinds of tanks, helicopters, hovercrafts, mechs and even a few battleships. General Fedorov didn't take any chances if they are going to get off this world they will need all the available help.
The shuttles where in this way arranged: Shuttles 10 and 9 codenamed Washington and Berlin stored the necessary food, Shuttles 8 and 7 named Moscow and Ottawa stored all military units Shuttles 6, 5, 4 and 3 named Paris, London, Warsaw and Luxemburg contained the stasis chambers for the population, Shuttle 2 named Rome contained scientific, mining and medical equipment. The last but not least named Eurasia was the primary command ship It held more troops than the others and was heavily equipped with plasma cannons, rocket launchers and a few ion cannons. It was truly a battleship for space. And on is deck Fedorov awaited the final preparations to end:
"Mr. Gordin, how are we on the final preparations?" Asked Fedorov.
"Almost ready general." He responded. "Fuel propped shields are up and the systems are on-line."
"Very well. Lieutenant, are all the men ready?"
"All the men are at there posts and awaiting the launch, General."
"Alright take a seat and wait Lieutenant for the show to begin."
"Yes sir!" She saluted and she closed the radio.
"Yes Marcus what is it?"
"We are ready sir one minute till takeoff."
"Very well. Make me a radio link to the ship and the rest of
them." He asked one of the men in charge of the communications device. He then
nodded telling the General to speak.
"This is General Fedorov to all the citizens of the ED, LC and UCS. I know you have worked hard these past few months trying your best, but know our destiny is at hand, we will leave our doomed planet in search for a better one this is my promise!" And with that he stopped the speech.
"20 seconds for launch, sir." Said one of the helmsmen.
"All crews prepare for launch in 15 seconds."
The alarm broke trough the entire ship and all men prepared for the big push. The General activated one of his control displays and called his AI.
"EVA, are you there?"
"Yes General. As you ordered we are ready, the engines have been activated. 5 seconds remaining!"
Fedorov said in his mind: 'This is it'.
"4 seconds 3, 2, 1, 0! Launch commencing!" Said the AI
The ship began to shiver violently and it felt how it started to leave the ground. The G forces were tremendous everyone was hold tight in there chairs. From the surface the 10 shuttles made a great spectacle of fire and smoke. They finally accelerated and broke free of the grip that held them to the planet. In them the crew stayed in there seats and took a last peek at the Blue Planet there home.
A few minutes have past and there were now in open space, but the crew was not flying around the ships there were equipped with gravity generators it was like you could walk back on Earth. God bless the LC.
The ten shuttles were in high orbit over the planet and started to move away from it. Back on the command deck Fedorov admired the stars: 'Beautiful aren't they?' He asked himself. Then his AI began:
"All systems are on-line, Reactor power 100%, Shields 100%, Fuel 98%, all ships are present and waiting further others."
"Very good, very good." He answered, but then one of his men said.
"Sir, we have an urgent message from Marcus Gordin."
"Punch it the main screen. What is it, Marcus?" He asked.
"I was wrong, sir." He said like it something bad happened or is going to happen. "I calculated wrong the degradation of the planet."
"What do you mean exactly Marcus?
"It wont happen a few months, is already happening!" He said with a grim face. The talk put ice in the veins of the general.
"Are you sure?"
"Yes I am, before we left I looked at the seismic devices: the surface already begins to crack and in a few hours the planet will be will be transformed in the biggest firework in the history of the Solar System.
"This dire news indeed. How much time do we have?"
"About 20 hours, before the surface becomes critical."
"Oh my god! Marcus, Nitimori emergency meeting now!" He said in a harsh tone. "Everyone in here must not tell what has been said and that is an order. Did I make myself clear?" He asked loudly. All the on the deck only nodded, but Fedorov took it like a yes.
He did not say a word and walked out command deck in the hallway which led to meeting area of the leaders. On the way he heard a voice that was calling him: 'Fedorov, Fedorov
Fedorov'. He turned and saw he was alone. Then all the sudden his vision became blurry and he fell dawn unconscious.
The general woke up in a location unknown to him it was like floating trough space. "Where am I?" He asked himself. Then in front of the general appeared a planet similar to earth in size and color, but it had two moons instead of one like Earth.
"What is this?" He said, but a voice responded.
"This my good friend is my world." That made Fedorov look everywhere to find the source of the voice, but find nothing. Right then two orange eyes appeared in front of the general.
"What do you mean your world?" He asked the voice. "Who are you? Where am I?" He put question after question.
"Please first let me introduce myself., I am known as the Chronicler. The figure stood in the light and
Fedorov Now saw what it was. He could not believe his eyes it was a dragon a dragon stood in front of his eyes.
"I know you are amazed by my sight, but I brought you here for a reason. I needed to talk to you."
"Why is that why do you want to talk to me?"
"Because I want to help you Fedorov and all of your men."
"Why would you help us you know nothing about us?"
"I know more than you believe about you and your kind."
"But how could you help us?" The General asked impatient.
"I will show you the path to a new world where you could rest."
"This world, meaning your world?"
"Yes I will show you the way to it, but the planet needs your help as well Fedorov. A great evil resides on it and is destroying all that is good on the planet. The defenders of it can't withstand the onslaught we need your help. Do you want to help us?" Fedorov thought for a few seconds
"I will do my best Chronicler." I promise.
"Very well then I will open the portal for your ships to get trough to my world. As soon as you are able, try to help the ones on the surface they need all the help they can get. Now I must go, follow your heart Fedorov in times like this you need a pure heart to get trough them. Then all the sudden the dragon disappeared and Fedorov was left to question all that has happened.
"I will do what I am asked to do to help this entire people and those not yet found. I promise that." Then a light blinded the general and he fainted again.
Now he has a new missions: To help his people get safely to a new world and help those who are in need. This is the generals' toughest mission ever.
